Dr. Shutsung Liao
Dr. Liao, founder and a director of the Company, is a world renowned scientist at the University of Chicago where he is currently Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His discoveries in the areas of androgen and orphan nuclear receptors have been particularly noteworthy. For example, he was the first to clone the androgen receptor and to demonstrate that the active androgen in many cells was not testosterone but dihydrotestosterone. In recent years he has been at the forefront of work related to liver X receptors (LXRs) and has identified a series of ligands that may be of profound benefit in the treatment of lipid disorders and atherosclerosis. In addition to these research interests Dr. Liao serves on the faculty of the Ben May Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Chicago and is a Director of the university's Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research. Dr. Liao holds a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Chicago and is credited with over 230 publications in major journals, reviews, symposiums, and text books.
Dr. Emil T. Lin
Dr. Lin is Professor in-Residence of Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Iniversity of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lin's laboratory is developing various analytical methods for biological fluids to examine the disposition of drugs and their efficacious and toxic metabolites in the body. The laboratory pursues the development of bioanalytical methods using novel approaches such as pre-column, post-column and photoirradiation to improve assay sensitivity requirements in the nanogram to picogram per milliliter concentration range. These methods are used to support pharmacokinetic and bioavailability studies for new drug development programs.
Mr. Scott Minick
Mr. Minick is a Venture Partner with ARCH Venture Partners. He has extensive biotechnology management experience, serving in executive management positions with SEQUUS Pharmaceuticals, OncoTherapeutics and LXR Biotechnology. Earlier in his career, Mr. Minick held various positions of senior leadership at Baxter Healthcare, most recently as the President of the Latin America/Pacific Rim business unit of Baxter Diagnostics. Mr. Minick is a director for FastTrack Systems, MedVantx, and First Genetic Trust. He received his postgraduate training in neurobiology at the Salk Institute and his M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
Dr. Tehming Liang
Dr. Liang serves as Anagen’s Senior Executive Director for Drug Development. After receiving his undergraduate degree from National Taiwan University, Dr. Liang studied under Professor Liao, receiving his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the University of Chicago in 1973.

After completing his Board certification as a dermatologist, Dr. Liang joined the medical faculty of Wright State University, where he served as chairman of the dermatology department from 1994 to 1995. Since 1995, Dr. Liang has maintained a private practice in dermatology in the Chicago suburbs.
Dr. Chao-yuh Yang
Dr. Yang is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Yang's long-standing research interest has been the role of low density lipoproteins (LDLs) in atherosclerosis. He is an expert in the area of structure-function relationships of human plasma lipoproteins and apolipoproteins and their lipid-related enzymes. Dr. Yang has authored nearly 100 scientific articles in this field and is currently the principal investigator on a grant from the National Institutes of Health. Dr.Yang received his PhD in organic chemistry from Georg-August University in Goettingen, Germany and completed his postdoctoral training at the Max-Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine. He serves as a reviewer for several important scientific journals including the Journal of Lipid Research, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry and Atherosclerosis.
Thomas M. Fitzpatrick, J.D.
Mr. Fitzpatrick is managing director of 2200 Ventures LLC, a venture investment and management company active in biotech startups. He joined Anagen as president in April 2003, through an arrangement with 2200 Ventures, to assist Dr. Liao in developing Anagen's commercial strategy and operations.
Fitzpatrick graduated from Yale College in 1973, cum laude, with an honors degree in history.
